Document Life Project: Week 34

This week the prompt for The Document Life Project Art Journal was to add numbers relating to your week.  After thinking about the numbers in my week, I realized that the dates themselves relate best to my week, so I decided to use my Becky Higgins ‘Rain’ Project Life cards, either whole or cut down or embellished, with the dates on each card taped so it hinges. Underneath and/or on each card will be the actual happenings and journaling of the day.   This is the tip-in page, with the background made from using a gelli plate, for the week so it has the dates of the last part of the week along with the washi tape which will attach the page to the rest of the moleskine journal:

The following is the tip-in flipped over along with the first page of the planner so the numbers reflect the beginning and last of the week, all with hand-cut date numbers from the cut-down cards themselves:

8-19 DLP numbers 2 pages
And this is the completed 3 page inside spread ready for lots of journaling and recording memories of the week.  The right hand page is also made from using a gelli plate.

What a great way to utilize some of my beautiful Project Life cards in yet another project!

Embellishing Project Life cards with Washi Tape

Embellishing the various Becky Higgins Project Life cards has really added to my variety of cards to use for Project Life as well as enjoying the creating itself.  So much extra can be done with washi tape.  These are examples of three 3×4 cards stitched together.

Here are three more embellished 3×4 cards, the one on the left with just snippets cut off from other projects:

And two 4×6 cards, again stitched together:

With some washi tape and many of your cards, bought or homemade, you can embellish and re-create new cards to use in your Project Life albums.

Project Life pages

For the last few years I have been keeping up with Project life but not sharing much with personal photos involved.  Unfortunately, this takes many of my pages out of the posting possibility.

PL-can use 4-27-13 album-tornadoes TX, trim shrubs-cr,lt

This one, mostly about tornadoes going on around us and in Texas, used some photos, some Becky Higgins cards, some digitally-made cards,  some Pinterest images, and some journaling.

This one included a notecard from a friend, pictures of the cat and garden with comments, another Becky Higgins card, and some digitally-made cards.

Project Life is an excellent way to keep a written and visual diary of your days.  The albums make excellent perusing through afterwards, for you and family members and even friends, when the days have mostly blurred into each other – gives you a chance to see what really happened and how you felt and thought about those happenings.

Project Life Cards Booklet Gifts

One of the things I love about the Project Life cards (most of mine are from the various Becky Higgins collections) is the look and feel of them.  Each is colorful with either full pictures or partial with space for journaling and thick enough to feel like as card and handle continued touching.  I wanted to make something colorful and creative for my grandchildren and came up with these.

12-15-13 booklets for E,I,A

I took both 3×4 and 4×6 Project Life cards and punched holes to provide for the rings.  Many of the 3×4 cards I taped together to make a 4×6 with either washi tape (to add more color and design) or scotch tape (for a continuous look).   I then decorated many of the pages with stamps, stickers (of their favorite characters or interests), various embellishments.  The children could then write, draw, or further embellish the pages.

Also, little pockets are added in which strips of decorative paper and stickers can be inserted for them to play with or add to their booklets.  I also made pages out of individual papers I had on hand for added interest specific for that child.

Similar booklets could be made of any theme or color scheme for any occasion or person.  I spent quite a bit of time on these but really enjoyed it.  My Inner Child loved putting together the page combinations and embellishments for my grandchildren, using far more fun products than were available for me.

More enhanced Project Life cards

There are so many possibilities to enhance your Project Life cards: 3x4 orange-crm disagonal border w-orange block washi with a bit of imagination  and creativity, plus  some washi tape and basic PL cards (this one from Becky Higgins kit “for Him”, you can make what suits your needs and eye.  Or this where two different washi tapes are used on a printable from Pinterest: cards - Copy

Or where I utilized pieces of leftover washi on a plain lined card:

There’s no end to the possibilities.

Enhancing Project Life Cards

It’s amazing what a touch of washi will do.  Enhancing some of the Project Life cards that come in the various kits is something I enjoy, not only doing but also then having the new cards to use.  There are times when the original cards are perfect and other times when a bit more embellishment is needed, at least for my visual tastes.  For example, this card from the Becky Higgins Cobalt set:

originals for embel - Copy

becomes this card with a little embellishment.  Yet for me the slight additions of outlining a few words and adding washi tape makes a huge difference in the overall effect:

4x6 remember card w-burgundy washi

This can be done by detailing with a pen (so you ‘remember’) and adding burgundy washi tape as above or just some extra birdcage washi tape on the bottom of this Cobalt card as here:

3x4 Document everyday black & white w-birdcage washi

and here is some black background with white circles washi tape on a Cobalt card to accentuate the printed words:

3x4 Live out Loud (cream, black trim)

And here to add extra color along the top with washi tape on this Clementine “Live in the moment” card:

3x4 Live i n the Moment Cobalt w-washi

I then take the newly embellished cards, scan them and have each to print out as needed.  Creative, yet useful.
